WELCOME TO OUR STUDIO
-
Hand built 💪
Hand making is always fun, with endless possibilities - it’s a bit messy , but worth it 💥
-
Firing 🔥
We fire most of our biscuit ware to 1100C to eliminate all impurities from the clay , and likewise for Eathen ware to ensure strength.
-
Thrown on a wheel 🌪
In our creative process we try different techniques to get the right results. Hand throwing ceramics is a fast way to create a body of product . Hand thrown ceramics have the advantage of being more stable / durable . Then it’s a case of further adjustment, manipulation, and decoration.
-
Slip cast
Some of designs require more attention, and it can take a long time to create a prototype. But then it can be a much faster process to replicate it by producing a mould to enable multiple copies with a unity of visual presentation.
-
Press mould
Texture, or you can call it skin, can be made with a number of different techniques, and press moulding is one that we use a lot.
-
Glaze ⚠️
Glazing is the most difficult and mysterious process in the world of ceramics. It’s a best kept secret for some manufacturers and a world of pure wonder how chemistry and temperature produce such stunning effects. We only use glazes that are food safe!
-
Gold lustre ✨
In some cases we use gold lustre to enhance detail . Lustre is applied over a glazed surface and fired at 700C , so it’s takes three firings to produce the item . It is usually hand painted and requires fine brushstrokes plus sometimes a double application, which makes whole process very time consuming, and that’s reflected in the price of production.
